Safely Customize WordPress
Themes & Plugins
Protect your code customizations with an update-safe Clip.
What is a Clip?
A Clip is a plugin-activated directory of custom files which can be used to safely customize WordPress and its installed themes and plugins. Clips are designed for savvy developers gearing their websites for worry-free updates, ongoing customizations and code protection.
A Quick Intro Video
What are the benefits?
-
Protection from all theme and plugin updates
A Clip is maintained in an isolated directory, ensuring your code customizations are completely protected from theme and plugin updates. -
Safely customize Genesis and other framework themes
Clips are perfect for customizing themes of base / starter frameworks such as Genesis, where the child theme may be updated instead of the parent. -
Starter plugin is tiny at approx 11kb in size (zipped)
The WP Clips starter plugin contains only the Clip templates, POT file and a couple of skinny plugin files. But, it's a bantam packing a heavyweight punch! -
Plays well with others and doesn't it love the company
Add 'performance tools' such as W3 Total Cache, Minify and/or WP-Optimize, and see how well they play together. -
Translation-ready and update-easy with one file
The starter plugin comes with a translatable POT file. Simply update the file with your translation plugin to include all custom and installed Clips! -
Easy and speedy to back-up, copy and transfer
WP Clips doesn't use a database, so no exports or imports are required. Just copy the single Clips directory folder to back-up or transfer. -
A worry-free deliverable for WordPress developers
A simple, easy-to-install deliverable for your clients. Just download a Precoded Clip template, code it, zip it and email it! (client must have WP Clips installed). -
Simple to install, update and manage all of your Clips
Your Clips can easily be installed, updated, activated or unclipped via 'WP Clips Manager' in WordPress admin. Precoded Clips can also be deleted. -
Build and monetize your own library of Precoded Clips!
Precoded Clips are easily coded, delivered and installed via the plugin. So, why not start your own downloadable Clip library or monetize a store! (example)
And with WP Clips Multisite ...
Benefit from all the features of WP Clips on a WordPress multisite environment, while enjoying the added flexibility of applying either network-wide (core) or site-specific customization. WP Clips Multisite is a recommended tool for customizing Genesis and other framework child themes on multisite. What's New in Version 3?
-
Clips have moved out of home
The biggest development to WP Clips is the relocation of Clips and custom files to their own Clips directory isolated from the plugin folder. Now, you can update, upgrade or even delete the plugin while being assured that your Clips remain safe and securely intact. -
Clip headers replace vitals file
A new headers data protocol has been added for declaring theme and plugin dependencies. Conditions are set in the custom Clip's functions file to dictate whether the Clip should or should not be enabled. Helpful in preventing errors when switching between themes. -
New Modular Design
Former in-built functions such as the custom Clip editor and file version upgrader have now been separated from the core plugin and added to easily-installed, optional precoded Clips. As a result, WP Clips is now leaner, faster and more secure than ever before.
